(+)‐2‐(4‐Methoxy‐5‐phenyl‐3‐thienyl)propionic acid ( 1 ) was obtained by asymmetric hydrogenation of 2‐(4‐methoxy‐5‐phenyl‐3‐thienyl)acrylic acid ( 11 ) in 97% yield and with an optical purity of 88% using Kagan 's catalyst. The racemic acid 1 was also prepared by an independent route and resolved by classical techniques.
