The solvent extraction systems Be(NO 3 ) 2 HNO 3 H 2 OTBP/kerosene and M(NO 3 ) 2 H 2 OTBP/kerosene (TBP = tri‐ n ‐butylphosphate, M = Be, Mg, Ca and Sr) have been studied. The alkaline earths elements are poorly extracted. Only very high acidities allow better extraction of beryllium. The sequence of extraction of the alkaline earths elements by the TBP depends on the concentration of the cations and is Ca > Be > Sr > Mg if the metal concentration is lower than 2 M.
