Abstract In contrast to the thermal rearrangement, the photochemically induced methylenecyclopropane rearrangement of diethyl trans ‐methylenecyclopropane‐2,3‐dicarboxylate (I) and of ethyl ethoxycarbonylcyclopropylideneacetate ( syn or anti ) produced diethyl cis ‐methylenecyclopropane‐2,3‐dicarboxylate. A true photoequilibrium was not observed.
