In a series of 17 o ‐substituted N‐ethylpyridinium salts the pyridinium nitrogen‐14 chemical shifts were determined by heteronuclear double resonance. A shift range of about 30 ppm was observed. No shift correlation was obtained with total electron densities calculated by the Extended Hückel Theory. By comparison with carbon‐13 shifts in analogously substituted aromatic systems a similar substituent dependence of 14 N and 13 C shifts could be established.
