Abstract The replacement of Cl − by ethylenediamine (en) in PdCl 2− 4has been followed spectrophotometrically at 25°C and μ = 1 (NaClO 4 ); it proceeds in two steps leading to Pd(en)Cl 2 and Pd(en) 2+ 2 , respectively. The observed rate constants are discussed in terms of the mechanism proposed by Reinhardt [1] for the successive ammination reactions of PdCl 2− 4 .
