Unequivocal syntheses of N(1 or 3)‐mono‐substituted 7, 8‐dimethylalloxazines are described. The borohydride reduction of various alloxazines has been studied under aerobic and anaerobic conditions, in the absence of light. These reactions are discussed in relation to other work on 7, 8‐dimethylisoalloxazines (flavins) and on certain flavoproteins.
