It is postulated that one aromatic ring and the amine group in the side chain could be sufficient for the specific fixation of the molecule of a tricyclic antidepressant and for warranting its activity. Some partially saturated derivatives of amitriptyline were prepared, in order to check if pharmacologic activity is retained.
