The quenching effect in a solution of p ,‐terphenyl in toluene has been studied for an aliphatic and an aromatic ketone. The rate constant of the quenching effect has been determined by three methods, and found to be independent of the choice of the particular method. F ÖRSTER'S resonance theory can be applied successfully.
