Abstract The structure of the products of the pyrolysis gas chromatography of some azobenzenes has been determined. The thermal fragmentation is compared with the fragmentation induced by electron impact. The pyrolysis technique described gives information on the aromatic substitution not obtainable by mass spectrometry.
