By electrolysis of cryolitic solutions of P 2 O 5 , elementary pure phosphorus is obtained on carbon cathode and Ni phosphides on Ni cathode. The most probable mechanism of phosphorus formation in these conditions seems to be the final dissociation of P 2 O 5 in P 5+ and O 2− and the primary electrodic discharge of these ions.
