The action of the unstabilized W ITTIG reagents methylene triphenylphosphorane and methoxymethylene triphenylphosphorane on 2,3:4,5‐di‐O‐isopropylidene aldehydo ‐ L ‐arabinose led with acceptable yields to the corresponding unsaturated sugars, providing a direct route for a one‐carbon chain extension in the carbohydrate series.
