The roots of Asclepias swynnertonii S. Moore are very rich in glycosides, the major portion being pregnane glycosides besides small amounts of cardenolides. Six cardenolides could be identified by means of chromatography: coroglaucigenin, ascleposide, uzarigenin, uzarin, corotoxigenin and frugoside, of which the first two mentioned substances could be preparatively isolated.
