The lipid composition of a whale brain ( Megaptera novae‐angliae B OROWSKY ) previously fixed in formol for two years is reported. The Colamine‐Kephalines had been destroyed by the fixation procedure but all the other fractions could be isolated from the purified lipids, and we have analysed the fatty acid composition. Cortex and Cerebellum on the one hand and White Matter and Pons on the other hand showed a similar composition. In comparison with human brain striking parallelism was found in some instances, marked differences in others.
