The cyclisation of o ‐(penta‐ n ‐propyl‐benzoyl)‐benzoylchloride by anhydrous aluminium chloride produced the mixture of the lactone of 5, 6, 7, 8‐tetra‐ n ‐propyl‐9‐hydroxy‐9, 10‐dihydro‐10‐ethyl‐anthracene‐1‐carboxylic acid, and of 5, 6, 7, 8‐tetra‐ n ‐propyl‐9,10‐dihydro‐10‐ethyl‐anthracene‐1‐carboxylic acid.
