The main alkaloids Erinine and Erinicine from the leaves of the plant Hunteria umbellata (K. S CHUM .) H ALL . f. have been shown on the basis of chemical and spectroscopic evidence to have the structures 1 and 2 . The main arguments for the skeleton of the alkaloids rest on an interesting application of high resolution mass spectrometry for comparison of structurally similar compounds.
