By reduction of β‐Carotene‐monoepoxide with LiAlH 4 we have obtained a product with the probable structure of 5‐Hydroxy‐5,6‐dihydro‐β‐carotene, as deduced from visible, IR. and NMR. spectra, as well as from thinlayer‐chromatography data.
