The hitherto unknown compounds inosine N(1)‐oxide and inosine N(1)‐oxide 5′‐monophosphate have been synthesized by deamination of adenosine N(1)‐oxide and its monophosphate with nitrosyl chloride in dimethylformamide. This method is also useful for deamination of adenosine, adenosine 5′‐monophosphate and adenosine 5′‐triphosphate.
