The seeds of Strophanthus gratus not only contain 4–8% ouabain but also a number of other cardenolide glycosides. The following compounds have been isolated in crystalline form: sarmentoside E, sarmentoside A, acolongifloroside K, and 5 other, probably new compounds: B, δ, η, K and λ 1 . Three more glycosides have been isolated in the form of their crystalline O‐acetyl‐derivatives: O‐acetyl‐sarmentoloside and two probably new compounds, ϵ 1 ′ and ϵ 2 ′. In addition, the presence of the four following glycosides was demonstrated by paper chromatography and further confirmed by paper chromatography after acetylation: bipindoside, sarmentoside D, tholloside and sarhamnoloside. The structures of the new compounds have not yet been investigated.
