A novel method for the resolution of 5‐hydroxy‐ DL ‐tryptophan is described. Successive treatment of N‐Benzyloxycarbonyl‐5‐benzyloxy‐ DL ‐tryptophan with the stereoisomeric bases quinidine and quinine precipitates directly the corresponding salts of the L ‐ and D ‐antipodes.
