Pure Ge is obtained in good yield by electrolysis of GeO 2 solutions in appropriate mixtures of fluorides wich melt at a temperature to 900°C. The suggested mechanism of the electrolysis consists in the dissociation of GeO 2 in Ge 4+ and O 2− and the direct discharge of these ions at the electrodes.
