A method of studying the exchange of chlorine between C 6 H 5 COCl and AlCl 3 labelled with 36 Cl has been worked out. It consists of removing rapidly C 6 H 5 COCl from the addition compound C 6 H 5 COCl, Al[ 36 Cl] 3 , formed in CS 2 with p ‐dioxane, which in its turn gives an addition compound p ‐dioxane,AlCl 3 . The latter compound described by the authors is stable enough to be easily isolated and lends itself well for the measure of the radioactivity of 36 Cl.
