The study of the temperature effect on the infrared absorption of dicobaltoctacarbonyl, which has led to the discovery of a non bridged isomer, has been extended to 300 cm −1 . In the spectrum of the non bridged form only two bands have been found in the range from 700 to 300 cm −1 , as compared with 8 for the bridged form. This is taken as further evidence that the non bridged isomer has a structure with D 3d ‐symmetry. For comparison the spectra of mercury and cadmium cobaltcarbonyl were also measured and found in agreement with the previously established structure.
