Abstract The isolation of scillarenin‐@‐D‐glucoside, a hitherto unknown glycoside from the red variety of squill (sea onion, Scilla maritima (BAKER) L.), is described. The structure of the new compound has been elucidated by acid hydrolysis to D‐glucose and the anhydrogenin scillaridin (VII), and by enzymatic degradation to the true aglycone scillarenin (VIII).
