The isolation of lignan H (C 27 H 30 O 12 ), a new glycoside from the roots and rhizomes of Indian Podophyllurn emodi WALL. and American P. peltatum L., is described. Its structure as 4′‐demethyl‐desoxypodophyllotoxin‐β‐D‐glucoside (I) has been deduced by the n.m.r. spectrum of its tetraacetate (II) and confirmed by acid hydrolysis to 4′‐demethyl‐desoxypodophyllotoxin (III) and D‐glucose.
