The solubility of zinc hydroxides and zinc oxide was investigated by determining [Zn 2+ ] and [H + ] of solutions in contact with the solid phases. [H + ]was measured by the EMF‐method at the constant ionic strength 0,2 (K)NO 3 (or (Na)ClO 4 ) while [Zn 2+ ] was calculated from analytical data. The relative stabilities 01 the solid phases are discussed in terms of free enthalpies of formation which were calculated from the solubility constants by means of a simple cycle.
