Based on the laws of probability and light scattering being neglected, an equation is derived which describes the light absorption properties of concentrated and diluted monodispersed heterogeneous systems as a function of particle size. Taking into account the volume occupied by a single particle, it is shown that the particle distribution within a concentrated system can be described by a hypergeometric distribution function. The theory is extended to monodispersed systems containing particles of different absorption properties and also to diluted polydispersed systems.
