Biotin hydroxamate is formed when [ 14 C]‐biotin is incubated with a partially purified extract of chicken liver in the presence of ATP, Mg ++ and an excess of hydroxylamine. Free biotin and the hydroxamate have been separated by chromato‐ graphy on anion‐exchange paper. Hence we conclude that biotin was activated to form biotin‐adenylate.
