The radiation chemistry of solutions of olefins in hexane has been studied as a function of temperature. An activation energy of 5,5 kcal/mole (6,8 kcal/mole) for the addition of alkylradicals to 1‐hexene (1‐octene) is found. The addition of hydrogen atoms to olefins does not show the expected temperature dependence; olefins apparently also reduce the number of radicals formed or available. The reason for this unexpected behaviour is not clear.
