The crystal structure of potassium methoxide has been determined from X‐ray powder data. KOCH 3 is tetragonal (space group P 4/ nmm D   4 h 7 ) with a = 3,95 å, c = 8,77 å Z = 2. It has a double‐layer structure with KOCH 3 ‐units arranged perpendicularly to the plane, having their methyl groups alternately on either side of the layer. The arrangement of the oxygen atoms and potassium ions is very similar to that previously reported for potassium acetylenediolate, with K‐O: 2,66 and 2,80 å K‐K: 3,68 å O–O: 4,03 å OCH 3 : 1,40 Å.
