The “hypoiodite reaction” with 11β‐hydroxysteroids of the 5αH, 5βH und Δ 5 series is described. Both methyl groups C‐18 and C‐19 are substituted, and products of single and double radical attack are found. In the case of 5βH steroids the reaction at C‐19 gives 11β, 19‐ethers exclusively. The results are explained on the basis of the differences in the steric arrangement of the reactive centres in the intermediates of type C.
