On methylation with CH 3 ‐KOH cholestan‐l,3‐dione (II) yielded 2, 2‐dimethyl‐cholestan‐l, 3‐dione (V) as the main product and l‐methoxy‐Δ 1 ‐cholesten‐3‐one (I), 3‐methoxy‐Δ 2 ‐cholesten‐l‐one (III) and 2‐methyl‐Δ 1 ‐cholesten‐3‐one (IV) as minor products.
