Since in chromatography of proteins on anion exchangers the best separations are to be expected with the use of cationic buffers and of pH‐gradients reaching acidic pH‐values, new cationic buffers have been studied, covering the pH‐range from 10,5 to 3,5. Their composition and their properties are reported; in particular, their capacity to give a good pH‐control during chromatography, their lack of inhibition over most enzyme systems, their interference with many procedures for Cl − determination (a modification of the brucin method has been worked out) have been studied.
