A synthesis of diaboline (N(a)‐acetyl‐Wieland‐Gumlich aldehyde) is described. Rotational and spectral arguments are employed in a discussion of the configuration of the C‐17 center of the Wieland‐Gumlich aldehyde and some of its derivatives. These results are explained in terms of a conformational analysis of these compounds.
