The direct combination of a gas chromatograph with a time‐of‐flight mass spectrometer is described. The advantages over the method of sampling the different gas‐chromatographic peaks are high sensitivity, high gas‐chromatographic resolution and speed of recording. The main difficulties encountered when working with small concentrations are memory effect, low abundance sensitivity and gas noise with the same frequency distribution as the flicker‐noise of thermal cathodes.
