A 1,23% alkaloid content was found in fresh Ammocharis coranica (Ker.‐Gawl.) Herb. emend. M.‐Redh. ( Amaryllidacee ) bulbs. Of this, 14,2% consisted of phenolic bases. Eleven alkaloids have been isolated from the non‐phenolic bases. Four of these (lycorine, crinamine, coranine and acetylcaranine) had already been obtained from this drug, whilst five other known alkaloids (6‐hydroxycrinamine, (+)‐epicrinine, buphanisine, buphanidrine and ambelline) have been isolated for the first time from A. coranica. In addition, small amounts of two new alkaloids ((+)‐epi‐buphanisine and coranicine) have been found.
