Abstract The preparation of two new π‐olefin complexes, butadiene iron tetracarbonyl and butadiene di‐iron octacarbonyl, is described and their structures are discussed. Butadiene iron tetracarbonyl adds hydrogen chloride with formation of an unstable cationic complex which decomposes easily, especially in polar solvents, with formation of π‐methallyl iron tricarbonyl chloride.
