The electrolysis of the cryolitic solutions of the pentoxides of Ta, Nb or V gives on the cathode a deposit of the metal of the pentoxides, with practically no Al. This result is a confirmation of the primary discharge of the Me 6+ ions. When operating with a carbon anode, the metals deposited on the cathode are contaminated with carbon, present mainly as carbide.
