The theoretical sensitivity of a method of measuring the polarisation ratios of R AMAN lines, using rotating polariser, is investigated. By this procedure the depolarisation ratio is directly determined as the amplitude of a certain side band in the output of the electron multiplier used as detecting device. Formulas and curves are given, which allow the choice of experimental conditions, given the intensity of a R AMAN line and the signal to noise ratio to be expected as a function of ϱ.
