The addition compound (1 : 1 type) of acetyl chloride and titanium tetrachloride has been prepared in a solid state. The study of its infrared absorption spectrum shows a characteristic lowering of the CO frequency, due to the fixation of the electron acceptor on the oxygen atom of the carbonyl group. The existence of two infrared absorption bands in the region of the disturbed carbonyl group leads the authors to the hypothesis that a double possibility exists for the fixation of the acceptor on its oxygen atom.
