The synthesis of 1,2‐diphenyl‐3,5‐dioxo‐4‐(β‐phenylthio‐ethyl)‐pyrazolidine (I), its respective sulfoxide (II, Anturan®) and sulfone (III) are described. Both enantiomers of the sulfoxide (II) have been synthesized, the dextrorotatory form being one of the metabolites of I in man. The p‐hydroxy derivatives of I and II have been synthesized, the latter (V) being a metabolite of II in man.
