Pure β‐dehydro‐elsholtzione is obtained by means of the sodium salt of its bisulfite compound. The syn and anti 2,4‐dinitrophenylhydrazones are prepared. The K ISHNER ‐W OLFF reduction of elsholtzione gives the corresponding furan, which by hydrogenation is converted into a mixture of cis and trans 3‐methyl‐2‐isoamyl‐furans.
