The radiation stability and the thermal stability of ordinary (C 12 H 10 ) and deutero (C 12 D 10 ) diphenyl have been measured and compared. Deuterodiphenyl is more stable than the ordinary diphenyl by a factor of about 2, for pyrolysis at 460°C as well as for radiolysis at 30–40°C and at 310°C. This difference is of practical importance for the consideration of deutero‐diphenyl as coolant for power reactors.
