The vinylation of benzene sulfonic acid with acetylene under pressure in the presence of mercury oxyde according to S AUER & W ILSON can be done without application of pressure. Contrary to the data in the literature, benzene can be used as diluent. The hitherto unknown vinylester of naphthalene‐2‐sulfonic acid has been prepared by this method.
