The addition of maleic anhydride to perylene and other kata‐ and peri‐condensed aromatic compounds in the presence of a dehydrogenating agent is studied. The para‐ localisation energies P D for the positions involved are calculated for a number of compounds with an approximate method outlined by D EWAR and are compared with the experimental data as well as with the values P B obtained by BROWN.The divergencies are shortly discussed.
