By labelling with 18 O it was shown that the reaction of the ester 3β‐benzoyloxycholestene‐(1) (I*) in an unpolar solvent on alumina to give the alcohol 3α‐hydroxycholestene‐(1) (II) occurs with alkyl‐O‐fission. The alcohol 3β‐hydroxy‐cholestene‐( 1) (IV*) corresponding to I* remained practically unchanged under these conditions.
