Diffusion coefficients D were determined for several systems consisting of triolein (molecular wight 885) as diffusion medium and octadecane, methylstearate and several stearates of polyvalent alcohols as diffusing substances, the molecular weight of the: latter ranging from 254 to 3430. The experimental values of D are higher than those which can be calculated from the formulae given by E INSTEIN , S TOKES , and P ERRIN . The differences between calculated and observed values are greatest for the diffusing substances of low molecular weight and decrease almost to zero for the substance of highest molecular weight. These findings obtained with triolein as diffusion medium are compared with what is Known about the molecular weight dependency of diffusion coefficients in the diffusion media benzene, water, and rubber. Finally an attempt is made to establish a relationship between the values of D and the mechanical properties, especially flow properties, of the diffusion media in question.
