The absolute configuration of the angular methyl group of petasin (Ia) was established by the coincidence of the rotatory dispersion curve of des‐isopropylidenepetasol (III) with the curves of structurally related octalones and steroids. Petasin is a new member of the eremophilone series of sesquiterpenes and its absolute configuration was found to correspond to that of eremophilone (VII) and its relatives VIII, IX.
