1:10‐Phenanthroline (Ph) forms a precipitate with Hg I having in nitrate solution the composition {Hg 2 Ph 2 (NO 3 ) 2 } and the solubility product of K 8 = 10 −24,70 (20°, μ = 0,1). In a suspension of this precipitate a mercury electrode responds on [Ph] similarly to a calomel electrode responding on [Cl − ]. This response was used for the investigation of the complex formation of phenanthroline with the cations Co 2+ , Ni 2+ , Cuz + , Zn 2+ . The results are given.
