1 A comparative study on catalase activity, as measured by FEINSTEIW'S proce‐dure, in presence of different substrates and at various temperatures has been made. 2 Catalase activity is reduced when H 2 O 2 is replaced by perborate, urea‐H 2 O 2 or picolinic acid‐H 2 O 2 as a substrate. This is due to the inhibiting action of the peroxyde‐carriers, which has been found smallest for borate. 3 The effect of temperature on catalase activity is small in presence of perborate (Q 10 = 1.07−1.12), but can be affected by inhibitors in various ways, highest de‐pendency resulting in presence of Na‐Azide (Q 10 = 2.4). Therefore, activity measure‐ments in crude material at 37° and 0° are differently influenced by effectors present in the system.
