The preparation of the two optical antipodes of α‐phenyl‐α‐ethylacetylurea or pheneturide, a powerful antiepileptic with low toxicity, is described. Although both isomers are equally effective as antiepileptics, (+)‐pheneturide acts, at antiepileptic doses, as a stimulant on higher centers, whereas at the same doses (–)‐pheneturide is a depressant.
